A room for every day Today’s homeowner wants more from his conservatory. It is now seen as an extra room to be used seven days a week, 365 days a year, whatever the weather. However, as many owners can testify, a conservatory can become almost unusable on hot sunny days because of solar heat gain, and uncomfortably cold in winter because of heat loss. This is because up to 80% of the sun’s solar energy passes directly through a standard polycarbonate conservatory roof, creating a ‘greenhouse effect’ inside, rendering the room too hot for use.
Increased comfort SmartPoly, with its integral solar protection, prevents up to 80% of the sun’s solar energy from entering the conservatory through the roof, helping to maintain a comfortable internal temperature. The roof will also reduce glare by 80%, further increasing comfort levels in the conservatory. In winter, most of the heat lost escapes through the roof; with a SmartPoly roof, a large proportion of rising heat is radiated back into the room, helping to maintain comfortable temperatures and reducing heating costs.

Zero maintenance SmartPoly is an integral part of the conservatory and so requires no additional cleaning or maintenance. It will provide effective solar protection for the lifetime of the polycarbonate (see guarantee). There is no need to install expensive internal blind systems (so there will be none of the cleaning problems associated with dust or dead flies) and the light, roomy feel of the conservatory is maintained.
Strong and durable SmartPoly combines strength and durability with excellent thermal insulation, while the high impact resistance of the material ensures long life. An integral ultraviolet light filter prevents the polycarbonate from yellowing with age and maintains optical clarity. The micro-thin polyester solar protector is highly reflective but allows natural light to penetrate, so the conservatory remains bright and airy.
Create a new look With two colour combinations and four colour choices, SmartPoly provides options to create your own ambience. Choose standard silver for maximum light penetration into the conservatory. add a blue or green tint to your roof or select gold for maximum heat and glare rejection. Whatever your choice, SmartPoly will capture generated light at night to provide feelings of greater comfort in addition to providing effective solar control and lower energy costs.
Advanced technology Unlike traditional methods of climate control - which try to dissipate heat once it has built up within the conservatory - SmartPoly reflects the sun’s heat, preventing heat gain from becoming a problem. The integral solar shield uses advanced, ultra-clear micro-thin metalised polyester exclusively manufactured by Tec-Sun, Europe’s largest supplier of solar inserts for polycarbonate. Tried and tested throughout the UK, SmartPoly brings new levels of comfort and energy efficiency to your conservatory - so you can use it every day.

Insertion Tool

Introduction
The following items are the basic tools you will need to complete your installation:-
Window Cleaners ouch or a large pocket on clothing
Additional Tools maybe required depending on the conservatory roof type. Please read advanced installer tips for non standard roofs.
Step 1
Arrange a comfortable working height about level with the gutter
Remove any end caps that maybe slotted or screwed on.
Step 2
If there is a plastic 'U' shaped drip edge fitted remove by pulling with hands. If drip edges are fitted with silicone they may need gently levering off with a large flat headed screwdriver.
Step 3
If there is breather tape fitted, peel off and clean of the edges of polycarbonate so that new breather tape can be fitted later
Step 4
To ease the fitting of the inserts spay silicone inside the top cells of polycarbonate, one at a time.
Step 5
Place a reel of insert material into a window cleaners pouch or into a large pocket around hip height, so that is below the height of the polycarbonate and inline with the channel to be inserted. Using insert material straight from the reel, punch a central hole at the end of the insert.
Step 6
Push the end of the rod through the hole, with the insert on top of the insertion road, embossed side facing upwards. (Bumpy side up)
Step 7
Slide the insert up the top cavity keeping pressure on the fitting rod until it reaches the end of the cavity. Ensure the entire insert forms an arc with finger and thumb to achieve a good finish.
Step
8
Remove rod and cut insert flush with polycarbonate.
Step 9
Check all cavities have been filled correctly from inside the conservatory. When all the inserts have been fitted, refit breather tape, 'U' shape drip edge and end caps.
What is Smart Poly?
Smart Poly is high quality durable polycarbonate manufactured by Brett Martin, Europe’s leading producer, factory fitted with advanced dual reflective metalized polyester solar protectors.
Why should I install Smart Poly?
Whilst building material’s, sealed units and doors have increased insulation properties in recent years the roof remains the principle cause of heat gain and heat loss in a conservatory. The suns solar energy creates between 8 to 10 kilowatts per hour in June, 80% of which passes straight through your polycarbonate or glass roof and into your conservatory; the equivalent of 8 single bar electric fire’s. Install Smart Poly and up to 85% of the suns solar energy is prevented from entering the conservatory.
Smart Poly will it work?
Smart Poly is based on long life 25mm polycarbonate from Brett Martin. Click here for Brett Martin’s web site) The P.E.T. technology of the inserts was first developed in 1934 in the U.S.A. Today that same technology is the most used solar control medium used throughout the world to reduce solar gain through glass. The mirror like appearance of some office buildings uses P.E.T. window film. Over 10,000 conservatory owners have upgraded to Smart Poly. It’s a tried and tested product throughout the Uk.
Is the product guaranteed?
Yes, you have a double 10 year guarantee. Brett Martin as polycarbonate manufacturer guarantees the integrity of the polycarbonate for 10 years and Tec-Sun guarantees the Solar Inserts for 10 years. Smart Poly is covered by a ten year comprehensive guarantee. (See guarantee document for details)
How do Solar Inserts compare to normal polycarbonate?
In terms of performance, standard polycarbonate offers little or no solar protection. Put simply, nothing works better than Smart Poly in terms of heat and glare reduction.
How do Solar Inserts compare to roof blinds?
Research shows that over 80% of conservatory buyers will spend £1000 or more on conservatory blinds within eighteen months of purchasing a conservatory.
Traditional internal blinds, whilst providing protection against the effects of ultra-violet and glare do not significantly assist in combating heat build up in summer. Indeed, in many cases the problem of heat build up is increased. The suns solar energy passes through the roof and is trapped between the blind and the roof creating a layer of hot air which can act as a radiator in the roof.
Other problems associated with internal fabric blinds are dust and dead insects. Moreover, with continual exposure to the suns solar energy and ultra-violet, deterioration can be rapid with fabric drying out and becoming brittle. Operating chords become stiff which makes opening and closing the blinds difficult...
What colours are available?
With two colour combinations and four colour choices, Smart Poly provides options to create your own ambience. Choose standard silver for maximum light penetration into the conservatory. Add a green or a blue tint to your roof or select Gold for maximum heat and glare rejection. Whatever your choice, Smart Poly will capture generated light at night to provide feelings of greater comfort in addition to providing effect solar control and lower energy costs.
Will my fabrics still fade?
The only way of preventing fading is to cover the items completely. However, by virtually eliminating UV, the rate at which fading occurs is reduced dramatically extending the life of your furnishings and fabrics. You can further protect your furnishing and fabrics by eliminating 99% of UV by installing Smart Window Film.
Is glare reduced?
Glare from the roof is reduced by up to 80% which will make your conservatory more comfortable. To further reduce glare, window blinds or Smart Window Film should be installed.
Will plants still grow in my conservatory?
Yes. Generally sufficient visible light is generates to enable plants to flourish.
Are Solar Inserts suitable for Ultra'light 500 and Everlite roofs?
Solar Inserts are suitable for all polycarbonate and PVC roof structures. Our technical personnel will help you identify your requirements.
